Newspaper Pronouns
To wrap up our unit on pronouns, the students were given newspapers and magazines. They had to find sentences that used a pronoun AND the antecedent. They cut them out, pasted them in the box, highlighted the antecedent and circled the pronoun. It was not as easy as it sounds, but they did fantastic!
Citizen Awards
Every Thursday, the kids get a notecard and vote for the Citizen of the Week. They are to be thinking about someone who has gone above and beyond throughout the week in terms of helping a friend, being especially kind, doing things without being asked, etc. I tally these up Thursday night and present the awards on Friday mornings and give them a box of candy or a candy bar.
In addition, on the other side of their cards, the kiddos write the names of two friends they might like to sit next to during the week. (They really like this part!) I do not always honor both requests, and sometimes seats get changed mid-week, but it is interesting to see how the dynamic changes each week. ;)

This week in Fifth Grade
Here are a few things coming up this week:
Religion - the students picked their Saint today to research. We will be designing posters to display. The students each received a rubric to help guide them. Each poster should include a picture of their saint, 7 facts, and any symbols used to represent the life and times of each saint.
Math - Chapter 6 Assessment on Wednesday. Multiplying and Dividing Decimals
Science - Unit B Chapter 4 Assessment on Thursday. Restoring Ecosystems (primary and secondary succession, problems and solutions to restoring ecosystems, recycling, reusing and reducing)
An EXTRA CREDIT opportunity has been assigned. The students are to collect any old items around the house and REPURPOSE them. We will share these on Thursday and Friday. Get creative!
Book Fair: Our time slot to visit the book fair will be on FRIDAY at 9:20. Feel free to send in any money for the students to spend on some new reading material!
Have a wonderful week!
Happy Reading,
Mrs. Rosenberg
