- Fire Prevention Day (Tuesday) We will go outside for a short demonstration.
- Field Trip to the Buffalo Museum of Science (Thursday) Please make sure your child has a packed lunch and a disposable water bottle. The children may only dress down in their school gym uniform. :)
- We are wrapping up our second chapter in Science. We have been study life cycles, mitosis, meiosis, inherited traits and genes. We will continue through this week to review the terms, concepts, and processes. Additionally, I have a small comic strip project for the students to work on regarding the life cycle of an insect or frog (their choice). I have included a rubric and an example for everyone to follow. This will be a graded assignment! I hope to wrap this up this week and begin test review next week. I have tentatively planned our Chapter 2 test for Wednesday, Oct. 23.
- Every six weeks in Reading, I will assess the students with a formative unit test. This will cover key skills/concepts that we have worked on and developed in the 5 weeks leading up to each unit test. There will be NO NEW SPELLING list during these testing weeks, and we will not begin a new reading selection. Each day I will administer a portion of the unit test. Day One will be listening and reading comprehension. Day two will be vocabulary strategies, literary elements and grammar. Day three will be the writing portion. This unit we worked on Personal Narratives.
- ELA - We will spend this upcoming week reviewing for a unit assessment. The skills/concepts that will be covered are: types of sentences, simple subject, simple predicate, compound subject, compound predicate, sentence fragments and run-ons. Please be looking for a Study guide to be coming home!
- PLEASE continue to work on multiplication with your child. I am going to have them make their own flash cards. It will be getting increasingly difficult to continue to meet our common core standards if the students do not master the skill of multiplying. They are doing fantastic! I just want the progress to continue with your help!
- All the students have a log-in and password for their Math online. You can follow the link on the side to sign in. They DO all work now! If you have any questions, please call or e-mail me.
Happy Reading,
Mrs. Rosenberg
