November!

It is hard to believe we are already into the third month of school!
Here is a brief description of some things we have going on in our classroom:
  • We are currently working on our Plant Project. The students were each given a specific location (Artic, Desert, Rainforest, City, Forest), and were asked to choose any flower/plant that can be found there. They are required to give the location, climate, and name of their plant. Additionally, they are to print out/draw a picture of their flower and give one-two sentences of "extra" information.
  • We are jumping into how plants are used for food and medicine. This weekend, I am asking the students to perform a little experiment/activity. IT IS EXTRA CREDIT, but I would it if everyone participated! Please be looking for the guidelines to this experiment and a handout which includes information/background on their project. (Did you notice I have not included WHAT the project is?) I want to wait until Friday to reveal what they will be doing!
  • We have just begun our Division Unit in Math, but please continue to work on multiplication at home. Today, the students were also introduced to using variables and finding the unknowns in word problems. Tough stuff, but they did great!
  • BE sure to ask your kiddo about their Ice Cream Multiplication. They love it - and when everyone completes their folder, we will be having some sort of celebration (depending on allergies).
Please note that the week of November 11-15, I will not begin a new Reading Selection with the kids, due to having Monday and most of Friday off. I will be doing something similar to Halloween week. The students will be provided with some reading selections that will be short and followed by some comprehensive activity. Additionally, we will NOT be introducing a new Spelling list, but they can ALWAYS continue to go Spelling City. :)

If you visit the side link, I have included two new links that go along with our Lesson 3, Chapter 3 in Science.

Happy Reading,

Mrs. Rosenberg
