How are we into another month of school?
It has been crazy with the weather/cold days, but the kiddos keep plugging along!
This month we are really focusing on developing our writing skills and working on pieces more independently. We will also be moving forward with incorporating self editing and peer editing versus the students waiting for me to do corrections with them.
We are currently working on two different pieces: Cereal Box Writing (to review Persuasive Writing), and the students are creating their own Fictional Narrative, incorporating elements of folktales. It's pretty exciting to see how far they have come since the beginning of the year!
Math continues to challenge them as move into unfamiliar territory. Currently we are multiplying and dividing decimals. From here, we will move on to fractions. Fractions are a really big deal in fifth grade! Please encourage your child to be aware of everyday fractions to help prepare them for this unit! (Here, have 1/2 of my sandwich. Would you rather have 1/4 of this pizza or 1/2?)
We will be having our Valentine's Day Party on Friday, February 14th around 1:00. :)
Please remember that we are asking each parent to send in a donation for the Annual Auction. We are doing a Gift Card Tree - so either a monetary or gift card donation would be great!
Another Scholastic Book order has been sent home for February. You can always order online by following the link and entering our class code.
As always, thank you for all your support!
Mrs. R
