A few things that I may have forgotten to mention at Back To School Night:
- Homework - I never assign busy work for homework. Generally, it is assigned as a prelude or a follow up to lessons in class. Coming in unprepared and without homework is detrimental to the days' activities. In addition to losing recess that day, the students will also lose 10 points off a graded assignment. Not all homework is graded, but why take that risk? :) I usually let the kiddos know if any given assignment is for a grade.
- DARE - Our program will begin this Friday with Deputy Hendrick. We had in him last year, and he really did a great job with both fifth grades!
- We will be having our first Science Assessment Tuesday, September 30th. Please look for a Study Guide to be coming home, as well as have your child review vocabulary and notes.
- For those who were unable to attend the other night - ask your child about our Fill Your Bucket routine that we have in our class. It has already proven to be a useful tool and great motivator for the kids to promote and share kindness toward each other.
- Please be taking a look at your child's agenda each night. Although I do not require (at this time) for parents to sign, it is a good way to stay in touch with your child's responsibilities for the evening.
- Our first novel study is underway - WONDER is an amazing piece of literature and the kiddos really seem to look forward to that part of our day!
