A Peek Into October

Here are a few dates to keep in mind:

  • Monday, October 6th is PICTURE DAY!
  • Monday, October 13th NO SCHOOL
  • Friday, October 17th Parent-Teacher Conferences

Also, this month we will begin Reading Buddies! We pair up with Mrs. Crofts Second Graders to do some shared reading.

I will be sending a flyer home with the students today describing their project choices for Summer Reading. This project will be due on Tuesday, October 21. 



1.    Create a mobile from items related to the story
·         Select 10 items that represent people, places, events or other parts of the book and hang them from a hanger using string or yarn
·         Write a key that explains each object and why you chose it


2.    Make a new book jacket for the book
·         Front cover: Draw and color an illustration for the book
·         Inside front flap: Write a description of the main characters
·         Inside back flap: Write a description of the setting and a short summary of the book (SWBST)
·         Back cover: Write 5-10 quotes from the book that are important to understanding the story


3.    Create a collage to represent the book
·         Your collage should have at least 10 pictures, photos or illustrations
·         Write a key describing each item on the collage


4.    Create a book in a bag
·         Choose 10 items that represent the people, places or events in the book
·         Place them in a brown bag
·         Create a label on the bag that includes the author and the title
·         Write a key describing each of the items and explain their importance to the story
